These color block puzzles combine two of our favorite things – puzzles and blocks. Seriously, what could be more fun?
Plus – these puzzles are also a hit with adults because they are a cinch to make and can be thrown into a bag and brought along as a quiet time activity. (Definitely one of our favorite busy bags.)

How To Make Your Block Puzzles
(affiliate links used below)
Grab your supplies:
- colored craft foam sheets
(you could also use colored paper)
- black permanent marker
- colored blocks LEGO Duplos
Set up the activity:
Choose pieces of craft foam and corresponding colors of Duplos (we did red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and black).
Set up the blocks in various shapes on the color they match. Trace the outline of the shapes with a permanent marker. Then set out all the craft foam sheets and mix up the blocks.
Play with the color block puzzles.
Your color block puzzles are ready to go! Your child can match the Duplos to the color sheet. Then using those blocks, your child can fill in the puzzles.
We read Freight Train by Donald Crews, one of our all-time favorites, and talked about the colors of the various train cars before (and after!) this activity. Books about colors are so fun, and we love using blocks to reinforce the colors we see!
