My kids love making this lemonade recipe! They can do almost all the steps themselves (except for making the simple syrup!). This can get messy and sticky…but it’s fun!
- 6 lemons
- 7 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- Juice the lemons. My kids love squeezing the lemon juice through a hand presser (here’s an affiliate link for a lemon juicer. It can be hard squeezing, so depending on their age they might need a bit of help. (This is so good for helping to strengthen their grip!) Tip: Keep a wet towel nearby to wipe off any lemon juice that gets squirted into little cuts!
- Make the simple syrup. My kids mix 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Then I boil the water and stir until the sugar is dissolved (they’re too little for the stove yet!). Let the simple syrup cool.
- Mix the lemonade. Mix the remaining 6 cups of water, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
Add ice and enjoy! It’s a very forgiving recipe – make it sweeter (more sugar!) or less sweet, add less water to make it more tangy. The kids experiment with mixing different proportions…and somehow it always turns out just the way they want!
