There are so many ways to play with Dr. Seuss books! We’ve been having fun playing word games with Hop on Pop! Here are some my boys love.
For all of these Hop on Pop Games, all you need is the book (here’s an affiliate link for Hop on Pop), and note cards and something to write with.
Hop on Pop! Write out several of the words in the book. Then call out the action matching the word- there are lots of possibilities. Some we like are:
- Hop on “pop”
- Pat “pat”
- Get on top of “top”
- Hop over to “hop”
- Sit on “sat”
- Meow on “cat”
Listen for the Words: Your child selects a few cards, reads them, and then listens to hear when you say “his word” while reading the book.
Act out the Words: Use the cards to act out what’s going on in the book. When you read “pup is up,” your child can select pup, and then hold it up! Acting out “Mr. Brown is out of town” can be a lot of fun – my son grabs the brown card and runs!
Create Your Own Story: Use the word cards to spell out other phrases – the sillier the better!
