Kids love name activities. The letters in my kids’ names were the first letters they recognized, and remain their favorite letters! With all the beautiful leaves falling around us, we couldn’t resist using the leaves in our name activity!
- Double sided tape
- Paper strip
First we talked about names generally: what each of our names are, and the letters they knew in their names. We talked about how every name begins with an uppercase letter, and that all the other letters are lower case.
Then I wrote out each name, leaving space between letters (you’re going to need enough space for a leaf to cover each letter). We counted the letters in each name.
Then we went for a walk, picking up one leaf for every letter in each child’s name. We wrote the letters on the leaves, and then matched the lettered leaves with the letters written out on paper. I put double-sided tape over the name, and the kids stuck the leaf letters over the paper letters.
