Add letter stickers to trains for playful way to learn letters and word formation! There are ways to play for kiddos who are just learning their ABC’s to those starting to read words.
Set up:(affiliate link included)
We got out our Thomas the Tank Engine trains, and put letter stickers onto each car. That’s it! Then we were ready to play!
For kids just learning letters, they can go on a letter hunt, and find and identify the letters on the trains. They can also place the trains in alphabetical order.
Learning Letter Sounds
Your child can help you place the stickers initially by matching the train to the letter it begins with. Henry gets an “H” and Thomas gets a “T.” Or match the letter to the cargo the train is carrying (so, the milk tanker would get an “m”).
Link trains up to form words! We especially like doing this with cvc word (consonant-vowel-consonant) and other short sight words.
Vowels vs. Consonants
Trains can be sorted into 2 groups: trains with vowel stickers, and those with consonant stickers.
