Cinnamon applesauce ornaments are easy to make and smell nice and Christmas-y!
Making Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments
Our cinnamon applesauce recipe uses a 1:1 ratio for cinnamon and applesauce and then we add in a bit of glue.
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup ground cinnamon plus some for dusting
- 1 tsp school glue
Mix all the ingredients – and watch your kids gleefully shake out the ground cinnamon! The mixture will be pretty sticky. Before rolling out the dough, we shake some ground cinnamon onto the board and the rolling pin.
The kids use cookie cutters to make the shapes they wanted to ornaments. Then I showed my 5 year old how to make a hole in the dough using a straw. Be sure to make it a little larger than you think you want it to be, because as the ornaments cook, the hole will shrink.
I used a spatula to transfer them to a cookie sheet. The dough is so wet that it was hard for my little guys to make the transfer. We baked them at 200 degrees for about 90 minutes. Remove the ornaments from the oven, wait for them to cool completely, and then hang them!
You can also let the ornaments sit out to dry, but that can take a few days, and my kids wanted their ornaments on the tree right away!
