This year at our Halloween party, we gave out pumpkin play dough kits as party favors. I’m so glad we did, because my 3 year old has been making pumpkin families ever since!
Pumpkin Play Dough Kits
(Affiliate links used below)
- orange play dough (buy it or make your own)
- pipecleaners – black and orange
- googly eyes
- cellophane bags
i made about 6 batches of our favorite play dough recipe (see it here). To color it orange, I added 1 tablespoon of orange liquid watercolors per 1 cup of flour in the recipe (so I used 6 tablespoons).
For each play dough kit, I used about half of a typical batch. So because I made 6 batches of play dough, I separated my play dough into 12 bags. I rolled the play dough into a ball, and put the goggly eyes in the bag.
Our play dough kit included green pipe cleaners for pumpkin stems, and black pipe cleaners to make jack o’lantern mouths. We also used the black pipe cleaners to make black and orange spiders! You can either give full length pipe cleaners, or cut them up – but just remember that pipe cleaners can be sharp – and cutting them can make some sharp ends.
We gathered the pipe cleaners together and put them on top of the orange pumpkin balls, and then tied up the cellophane bag. Then I set out the play dough kits to give away at the end of the party (or earlier, if things at the party went south!).
