As I mentioned above, I have two boys. And as much as I love playing Construction Zone and Trains with them, sometimes I covet more *girly* activities (don’t get me wrong, boys and girls can enjoy all of the same sorts of activities, from dolls to racecars, my boys just prefer the latter type). So when my niece comes over to visit, I jump at the opportunity to come up with something unique that she might enjoy playing as well. One of our recent favorite ways to spend an afternoon together is making and playing Tissue Paper Cupcake shop!
* Various colors and patterns of tissue paper
* Glue Stick
* Cupcake liners
* Miscellaneous sewing and beading notions
The process of making tissue paper cupcakes is pretty simple: Take your desired paper and crumple it into a ball shape. Place the ball into a cupcake liner (we love using fun patters and colorful liners!) Smear a bit of glue to the top of the tissue paper cupcake so that your notions will stick on without frustration.
Serve and enjoy the simple treats with friends and family!
This activity can be extended by having your munchkins make menus of cupcakes and allowing you to choose from the selection they offer. If teaching to count money is on your list of educational goals, why not enrich the pretend play by adding in some coins and allowing this to be an enjoyable math activity?
